An internal gaming sound card will always be better than an external one.

I don't play BF3, and have no knowledge about any issues Punkbuster may have with PCIE. Someone else will have to confirm that if it is a problem. This is the first time I have heard of it, and there are a load of people on these forums that have BF3 and a PCIE sound card. If there were any issues, I would expect there would be quite a few threads about it already.

Hey guys looking for some advice which would be the better sound card one mounted to the motherboard or a external USB one ,
It will mainly be for gaming and I have heard that BF3 / Punkbuster doesn't like PCI-E sound cards ??

Was thinking between

USB

I've never had a problem with my PCIE card with BF3. Where did you get that info?

I use one of these Creative X-Fi HD USB Soundcard, switched from one of these Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium.

Personally I cannot tell the difference, the external USB sounds that little be clearer to be honest. I switched because they have full sized headphone/microphone jacks on the front and i can connect it to my Corsair SP2500 using RCA jacks. It also gave my SLI GFX cards more room to breathe.

Oh and I play BF3 and it produces sound just as well as an internal, great stereo positioning as well using the headphone jack.

BF3 and the Phoebus don't play well together but that's down to the Asus driver not PCIe.

I just got the card but don't own BF3 so not a problem for me.
