PCI-E - White Elephant?

See, there is demand for PCI-E cards :o .

Or at least MB makers should be more considerate when it comes to overloading their board with useless slots.

Unfortunately they're all coming out in the higher end market. There are some very capable RAID controllers, SCSI adapters, fibre channel cards etc on PCI-E for the mid range server market, and in that market they're quite cost effective.

I belive for servers its PCI-X not PCI-E similar design but differnet system from what i remeber, you are getting some dual xeon boards now carrying both PCI-E and PCI-X slots

I have the same problem as some of the others. My mobo, when both graphics cards are inserted, only has one useable pci slot. However it does have a couple of useable pci-e slots sitting there doing nothing apart from taking up precious room that could have been used for another pci slot or two.

Physx cards. Why have they not released these in PCI-e 4x versions, seeing as they are designing them from the ground up, rather than modifying an already in use design.

The Octobot was right in what he said - midrange servers are coming with PCI-E slots now, whereas they've had PCI-X for quite a while.

I want a pci-e wifi card, there simply arent enough slots for those who want a tv card, sound card and wifi card. Even if you do get a board with 3 pci slots some of them are obstructed by double slot graphics card coolers :(

omg, 3 months in the making and time for an update huh?

I bought an Abit Airpace Wi-Fi 2 months ago which fits the PCI-Ex1 and its pretty good. Never had any drops/dead spots from it and its constantly either used for downloading/gaming/surfing 24hrs with a 'very good' connection constantly.

I bought it just as it had the arial cos I was having problems with a dongle as I'm in the back bedroom and the router is at the front of the house.

Thought I would bring this back to life instead of crashing someone elses thread about hard drives or summat :p

Holy thread revival, and at the same time huge coincedence at the same time. Just bought a PCI-E Creative X-Fi yesterday for a new build :p

Edit: Ended up using an external wireless ethernet adapter to get round my lack of PCI slots.

Well hit me with a loofer and call me president. Its about time PCI-Ex1 finally wiggled its way out of the wood and came back to the world of entertainment in a metal box:D

Have Creative finally sorted the drivers out for them? I remember reading about them having an annoying hissing sound coming through them due to not having the best sheilds.

On that note I reckon the PCI-Ex1 Wi-Fi Cards definately have the upper hand on PCI due to better bandwidth.
