PCI-E X-FI coming v.soon!

why on earth they need to use the full 16 lane (physical) form factor i have no idea....... i doubt the card even needs x4 bandwidth, and would probably function happily on x1.....

Which begs the question why ANYONE would sacrifice a full size PCI-E slot to hose one of those crappy cards. Especialy as only enthusiast boards generaly have more than one PCI-E x16, and that is hardly an enthusiast Gfx card.

It doesn't:

The Xtreme Audio is a shockingly bad card. :(

whys that? im sure your comparing it to something..?

i want it because i use the one that comes with my asus board and uses pci-e but i have 7.1 and the side and rear are extremely quite and 'echoey'. SURELY it will be an improvement on that!?????

do you not like the whole x-fi range or just the cheaper ones?

because it has no hardware acceleration.

No, in fact i'm going to pick myself up an X-Fi very soon. :)

But the Audio has had all it's features stripped off, no hardware acceleration, no EAX.

You'd be far better off getting the Xtreme Gamer or Music. And, from what I can tell, I don't think there will be more X-Fi cards on PCIe apparantly there is an issue with the bus (need someone else to clarify that for me though).

wasnt he arguing FOR pci-e by saying how using a full pci slot is silly and using pci-e is great? well thats what i made of it

He was saying how it's pointless to use a full 16x PCI-E slot, presumably because the picture on the OcUK site is the PCI card so looks like a full PCI-E 16x card; I was just pointing out that's it's a 1x PCI-E card :)

your confusing me! :D
so is the sound quality crapper than its Predecessors???? or are you saying its crap cuz theres no hardware acceleration which would make it awsome but its still well good? :S:S or what? why is is 'shockingly bad' ???

Had a gut feeling it would happen, doesnt help when u got a nice expensive fatality kit ;)

Will have to see really cos at the end of the day an uber high quality sounding PCI-Express soundcard with full Vista support and a decent breakout box with headphone amp would help.

Then theres Asus new line up of pciexpress cards due soon... and thats the reason why creative had to launch its own pciexpress soundcard !

I've heard this as well, I think it's something to do with the timings of the bus but I've never seen an in depth article about the issues facing Creative in making it work on PCI-E. I would have thought there wouldn't be anything that couldn't be overcome (since GPUs work fine).

there's definately some sort of issue they were having with the PCI-E bus and latency in sound cards, i seem to recall!

Yeah, the pci-e bus has loads of bandwidth but bad latency's, so its great for hard drives, nic's and vga cards but not for sound.

Creative did hint that things could change with the introduction of pci-e v2, one major reason why they have not bothered to work around the problem is the fact that mainboards sold today still have pci slots, there is no motive to put work into a pci-e version if boards still support pci.
