Just ordered a PCI-E x1 M2 Adapter that will work in a PCI-E x1 slot so I can install my old NVME SSD into my machine. Won't get fast speeds but still better than a SATA SSD and can use it for storage.

Can't make use of the free PCI-E x16 slot as its blocked by the graphics card.

Potentially not, as you'll be limited to PCI-E 2.0 1x, so 500MB/s, SATA can normally achieve slightly higher than that,
This is what they reckon I should get @ PCI-E 3.0 1x speed...

Ok I’ve managed to cancel my order. What type of PCIe M2 adapter would I need to fit in the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot?
Ok I have found one that is M.2 NVMe SSD to PCIe x4 Adapter Card which supports PCIe 2.0 motherboard. I guess that one in the PCIe x16 slot would give me higher speeds than anything over the PCIe x1 slot.

Well I've gone for that one, I'm happy with PCIe 2.0 x4 seeing as that is all my motherboard supports and is faster than the PCIe 2.0 x1 I would have got with the other one, when I thought my motherboard was the faster PCIe 3.0 x1 anyway.

It also supports PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 3.0 x4 so may come in handy in future.

As an aside the specs for PCI-e aren't always correct - for example some of the Z790 boards say PCI-e 3.0 for the chipset slots but will actually do PCI-e 4.0. It is worth checking the BIOS to see what the options are.
The manufacturer says 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, I don't think they'd get that wrong, and the board is from 2018. The PCIe x4 M2 adapter was £12.24 and the PCIe x1 M2 adapter is £7.87.

Need to keep costs down as the drive is only worth £40 tops and a couple sold for that on the MM in July. Its a decent size though 1.92TB.
