Can anyone recommend a decent PCI-E X1 graphics card with DVI out?

I want to run three monitors and I've only got 1 PCI-E X16 slot but a couple of spare X1 slots. Preferably nVidia based as I've already got a GTX 285. The only one I've found is a PNY Quadro NVS 290 256MB for £59.98 (competitor site, ocuk doesn't seem to stock any PCI-E X1 cards)

Any card will run on a PCI-E 1.0.. they are all backwards compatible.

You mean 1.0 not X1. The X1 means times 1 not 2.0 standard.

If you are using the system for some gaming and browsing etc. go for something around the HD 5770 or GTX5500Ti. Decent cards!

He means a x1 size PCI-E slot.

There are a few I can see on an American site .

The cheapest are around $60.

By the time you convert to £ and add on VAT, delivery etc. they aren't going to be any cheaper than the one you've found.

Does your motherboard not have onboard graphics you can use or a PCI slot?

I'm sure there must be some dirt cheap PCI cards with DVI output.

Or does a x16 card work in a x1 slot?

Well since they work in x8 slots (x16 physically, x8 electrically) I can't see why not.

And googling gives this wierd mod... http://www.invisiblerobot.com/pcie_x1/

They also work in x16 slots which are x4 electrically but I wasn't sure if a x1 slot provides the necessary power to run the cards.

Looking at that mod you either need to butcher the card to fit or cut open the back of the PCI-E x1 slot.

If they have any you invalidate the warranty on the graphics card or the motherboard.
