PCI-E x1 in PCI-E x8

Hi guys,

It might be a bit silly question but would this be a problem if I plugged in a PCI-E x1 card (Xonar STX) into a spare x8 slot? It simply is longer but the connector on the card is short so it still fits.

I guess it will work, why shouldn't it?
I don't want to bugger it so has anyone tried it?

Mobo is Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen3

It will work no problem, the x8 slot will just run in x1 mode. I have a Xonar DX PCI-E x1 in a x4 slot and it works fine.

Yup, will work fine. Ive had my xonar DX in every pcie slot on my board at some stage.
