PCI Express 2.0 question

Hm. Well thats a load of my mind. The performance difference is neglegible. Like half a frame in most cases. I shouldnt think i would notice any crippling with a 4870 on a 1.1 slot then.

good good :D

Indeed,

Mobo manufacturers always sell us things we don't need right now!;)

So what PCI-E is the Asus P5W64-WS Pro then? Pretty old by todays mobo standards (975X) so I'm fearing its PCI-E 1.0.... I'll be damned if I can actually find any definitive answer anywhere though.

i guess a s939 a8n sli deluxe will be 1.0a? its nforce 4 btw.

Thought it was only certain chipsets that had problems running 2.0 cards on 1.0a slots?

I ran my 8800GTS G92 fine on my DFI Lanparty Expert 939 mobo. I'm sure that was pci-e 1.0a.

FWIW I have benched my 4870 on both an Asus Commando (v1.0a) mobo and an Asus Maximus Formula SE (v2.0), same hardware(Q6600, 4gb, Velociraptor), fresh install of Vista x64 and these are the results:-

15626 on the Commando
16410 on the Maximus

5% difference.

Commando was @ 400*9 - 3.6ghz
Maximus was 450*8 - 3.6ghz

So I can conclude:-

@ 1280x1024 v1.0a isn't that much slower than v2.

Of course, no idea how high res and high aa/af will change those results. Also, wouldn't like to try Crossfire on the Commando.

Now for the million dollar question...

What will the impact be when running a 4870X2 on a PCI Ex 1.x board with all of the bandwidth intensive features enabled?
