hi

I'm looking into PCI express 3 at the moment for a build but i'm not sure about what components i need to get to use it. I know some mobos have PCI-E 3 slots but do you also need a GPU with PCI-E 3 to make use of the slot. Also some mobos say "To support PCI Express 3.0, you must install an Intel 22nm CPU" so does this mean i need an Ivy bridge processor to use PCI-E 3?

I'm also not sure on whether i should go with PCI-E 3, as i'm making a budget gaming computer would PCI-E 3 be useful to me anyway?

I know there is a lot of questions there, but any answers would be appreciated :) thanks

To use PCI-E 3 you will need a compatible motherboard like the Z77 and a IB CPU, not forgetting a PCI-E 3 card like the 670 or 680 from Nividia.

Motherboards which have PCI-E 3 slots require a IB CPU to work.

i'm thinking about making a gaming computer on a £600 budget, i'm not too sure on what components to get yet, but i was just asking the PCI-E question out of interest, do you have any components you would recommend for a gaming comp on that budget?

Although the 6850 OC version is very good for the price, would the build with the GTX560ti be better for gaming or would the i5 in build 2 balance it out? (solely for gaming)

The i3 is a good cpu and I probably my self look at the first option with the 560ti, ideally the first option with the 3570k CPU but this takes you over budget.

i agree the 7850 is a good, eco card but to use the PCI-E 3 feature I would need an IB CPU, so I think the 7850 is out of budget, but if anyone is making a gaming comp on a larger budget the 7850 would be a good card
