Of course no adaptor in my 1900xt box.

So before I leap into town I was wondering if the 8 pin power adaptor on my akasa 460 psu could do the job?

I'm assuming no but I'd thought I'd ask ;)

Edit:

The PSU will be OK but I would suggest a Molex to PCI-E. The standard PCI-E is only 6 pin. Dont try plugging your 8 pin plug into the card.

Becarefull though, make sure you get one thats wired up correctly. I bought one from a local electronics outlet which was not and basically my card would not power up.

The +12v lines all need to be wired on the newer PCIe cards power socket, some used to be 2 x +12v.

It was like:

12v [][] gnd
noc [][]] gnd
12v [][] gnd

and now:

12v [][] gnd
12v [][]] gnd
12v [][] gnd

Where the extra ] indicated the lug, gnd = 0v and noc is no connection, sometimes this could be gnd or even +5v!! No idea what was correct, but the bottom configuration IS correct for the X1900XT

My mate ended up giving me his 1x Molex > PCIe cable he got with his Sapphire as his PSU had the correct cables. You can modify the other type of cable to supply the extra 12v but to be honest its best to buy the correct cable.

I am not sure what kind OcUK sell, its impossible to tell from a picture, the competitor one I bought locally on the web looked correct but the actual article was not!

Cheers,

Mike

Don't put the 8 pin adaptor anywhere near your GFX card! (Thats if its the one I'm thinking about, the one with the P4 12V connector on it?)

You'll need to invest in an adaptor I'm afraid.

Yeah thats the one ;)

Couldn't find one locally so I've had to order from OCUK. Someone really should put warnings under the graphic card descriptions as a check.

Was this a Connect3D card?
Probably, I made a very angry thread some time ago when I recieved an X1900XT 512MB with no 6-pin adapter in the box (despite the contents list on the back of the box saying it had one.) I sent an email to Connect3D about it and they tried to feed me some rubbish about how my PSU will not be powerful enough to run an X1900XT 512MB if it doesn't already have one on it.

A friendly and helpful bloke on these forums ended up sending me one free of charge, it arrived the next day and my X1900XT has been running smoothly as silk on my Akasa UltraQuiet 460W at XT-X speeds ever since.

Well I managed to find a mate who had one though it only had a connection for one molex.

Anyway it runs ok now but when I ran ati tools the core was at 500. Is this a symptom of not enough juice or am I reading it wrong?

X1000 Series graphics cards have a 2D mode and 3D mode. :) You're seeing the 2D clocks.
