I've just got my hands on a Asus rtx 2060 super and I have run into a problem being it's got a 8 pin PCI express power plug and my PSU has 2x 6 pin power plugs! Changing my PSU is not a option so before I order a 6 to 8 pin adapter I've been looking for an adaptor the connects to both of the 6 pin plugs to a single 8 pin plug but not having any luck! Does such an adaptor exist please?

What PSU have you got? Are you sure they're not 6+2pin cables?

Hi thanks for the reply i have a hp z600 workstation it says it's a 1.1kw PSU but as far as I know it's impossible to change the PSU in this machine. It's definitely got 2x 6 pin cables. When I got the machine it had a Radeon HD 4870 that was using both the cables then I updated it to a gtx 1050ti and that used just one of the cables.

Ah, okay.

Sadly OCUK do not stock 2x6 Pin to 1x8 Pin. But there are definitely some out there, we're just unable to link to competitors on here. Maybe @CuriousTomCat can help..

Yes I work in a shop that sells them. Have you checked on OCUK? They must sell them.

Hi thanks for the reply. I don't know I didnt look on ocuk I just googled it but the only plugs I was finding was single 6 pin to dual 8 pin. I will have a look thanks.

Ok I will keep looking thanks.

I just found them on eBay! I was typing dual 6 pin to 8 pin but they are listed as 8 pin to dual 6 pin thanks for the help guys.

I got the adaptor today, dual 6 pin to single 8 pin the card is working but I keep getting frame drops and freezing when gaming! Also my hardware doesn't perform as well! In CPU mark I get 30th percentile with the 2060 yet with the 1050 I get 60th percentile in CPU mark. I guess it's time to upgrade.

Does the 2060 syper need an 8 pin and a 6 pin cable ?

You should have one 6 pin in to on3 connector and the 6 pin to 8 pin in the other connector .

No the 2060 has a single 8 pin power connector.
The adaptor I have connects to both of the 6 pin pcie cables from my psu. And converts to a single 8 pin connector. I thought this would be better as in theory the 2 6 pin connectors from my psu should be on separate rails which at a guess should be 2x 75w instead of 1x 75w?

My way of thinking that the pcie port on the mobo is 75w and the 6 pin power connector is 75w which adds up to 150w and the card requires 175w!

But now I'm thinking the card is drawing too much power which is causing my system to run poorly.

I thought my PSU was 1.1kw but I pulled it yesterday and it's only 800w! I'm gonna try to disable the second CPU to see if that makes a difference but I thought if I'm going down to 12 threads I might as well try out the ryzen 7 which has 16 threads with the Asus Rog strix mobo and a new PSU, well a whole new rig basically.

Don’t forget that a Z600 is an old LGA1366 beast usually specced with westmere Xeons that run at bone stock speeds. I have a Z800 in work with dual X5650s and it’s good enough for work but gets utterly annihilated by anything released in the last 5 years as the single threaded performance is dreadful as the clock speeds are so low.

Monitor cpu usage in task manager and I bet one thread or two will be pegged whilst the rest is not doing quite as much. The gpu usage will be below 100% as you are limited by the cpu.
