Hi,

About to buy a soundcard ( Asus Xonar D1 or DX ) and toying over PCI-e or PCI.

I already have a PCI TV card so this 3nd soundcarfd will fill up both my pci slots.

Just wondering when I next get my motherboard what are the chances of having 2 pci slots again ?

Guess for future proof better go for the pci-e version ? Just has an annoying power cable :(

As far as I know, PCI isn't being phased out - all the new i7 mobos have PCI slots. More to the point, PCIex1 slots often seem to be covered by dual-slot graphics cards, as they tend to be put next to the primary PCI-e x16 slot, and if there's only one x1 slot..
So go for the one that is least hassle atm, and don't worry about planning for the future, unless you're intending to upgrade in the next couple of months.
Feel free to shoot me down with actual facts about this, I just see no reason why PCI shouldn't be here to stay a while longer yet.

It will be phase out from 2011 or later but it still wont be very long cos it was created in 1993 so it will be replace by PCI-Express. Next new motherboard from this year may not include PCI slot - wait and see if it still use or not.
