Hi,

Has anyone come across a PCI network card which has the facility to change the cards mac address? (please only provide brand name and model of network card, no competitors URL)

I work in IT and I need to move some licensing software which is hard coded to a certain mac address.

Thanks for your help

All my cards are onboard, but I've checked 3 of them and they all have the facility to change the MAC address, are you sure yours doesn't?

Hi,

I've re-checked the PC and it has a built-in NIC card but the only changeable BIOS option for the NIC card is boot from network.

No options to change mac address.

It can be done with some software such as MacShift if the driver does not allow it.

EDIT: Have a look here.

Hi,

Sorry I forgot to say I'm aware we can change the mac address with software but I was hoping to do it without such software.

Were looking for maximum reliability so hardware would be better but if I can't find a suitable network card then we will have to go ahead with a software fix.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Maybe we're looking in a different place.

In device manager right click on network card -> properties
Click on Advanced tab
It's actually labeled as "Network Address" on 2 different brands of NICs i have here (3com and MArvell Yukon)

This software uses the Windows Registry solution. It does not need to be constantly running. It is on par with the driver solution that has been presented.

I was looking in the bios (my old nForce motherboard allowed you to change mac address from the bios)

I've checked in device manager for the network card but it doesn't have anything in the advanced tab to change mac address. It's only got QOS, Flow control, Speed and WOL.

Do you think if we bought a standard 3com network card I would have the "network address" option you see on your card?

I try a couple of other computers with PCI network cards and see they have the option you see.

Never knew that. If it doesn't require to be running all the time then this could be ideal solution.

Thanks for the help.
