PCI Sata card

I have a mates computer here with only 2 sata ports on it and i suspect that they are both faulty.

If i get a pci sata card would i be able to use that instead of them or do they only work for additional drives rather than main boot drives?

You can use it for a boot drive but you will need to have the driver handy when you install windows (unless its got it built in but I doubt it).

Some of the cheap SATA cards arent bootable, so watch out for that.
