Got a 7800GT OC and just recieved my Xonar D2X.

Got a DFI LANparty NF4 SLI-DR motherboard and had my graphics card in the top PCI-e graphics slot and my old sound card in the bottom PCI slot.

This new sound card is PCI-E and my board has -

# 1 PCI Express x1 slot
# 1 PCI Express x4 slot

Does it matter which i put it into?
Does it matter which i put my graphics card into, because i changed it to the bottom slot and now i can't enable Aero in Vista :(

Thanks,

Andy

Pretty sure the xonar has a pci-e 1x connector.
A pci-e 4 x socket is phyically bigger than a pci-e 1x slot although you can fit a pci-e 1x card in a 4x slot and it will work fine.
So assuming the xonar is a 1x connector then you can put it in either

Well i looked it up and my graphics has to be in the top slot which means my sound card sits in the slot below it with the hot fan blowing on it.

Is that safe? lol

if your board complies with the pci-e regulations
The slot nearest the mem slots is slot 1 then you can put the xonar in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th slot

Yes I know that.
as what i said. with your graphics in slot 1 ( nearest the mem slots) then the xonar can go in 2nd 3rd or 4th

Im sorry. :o

I`m looking at an image of the wrong board. Your graphics slot is actually slot 2 , isnt it. doh. :o

What I mean by what i've put is if your board complies to the pci -e regulations then you can put a 1x card in a 1x, 4x, 8x or 16 pci-e slot

sorry again, cant imagine what you were thinking

Can't put it above the graphics as it doesn't fit.

So could i put the xonar into the other 16x slot?

Andy

EDIT: Seems you can as pictured here you can see the slot is not closed at the end for use for other cards.

Sorry for late reply just got back from the match.

That open ended slot is so you can fit a 8x or 16x card, but it`ll only run at 4x.
The slots are interchangeable but will only run at the speed of the slot.

Notice the "key" is in the same place on all the slots. If they wasn't compatible with each other then the key would be in a different place to stop you inserting the card.

If this is your board http://z.about.com/d/compreviews/1/5/g/5/LPUTNF4SLIDR-Board.jpg then you should, assuming the board is following the relation of pci-e standard be able to fit it into the other large slot

Yeah, i managed to keep my graphics running at 16 x in the 2nd slot (1st graphics slot) and the sound card in the 4th slot (2nd graphics slot)

Thanks,

Andy
