PCI Slots

Hello!
I've just installed my brand new 3070 GFX and it covers the PCI slot that my soundcard was in. I'm sure I read somewhere that I can use the PCIe x4 slots instead, even though they are not the same size. the beginning portion of the slot is identical.
Is my memory correct? or have i dreamt this?
