PCI wifi problems

I've just added a wifi pci card to my son's computer. I already have a desktop with wired LAN to a belkin .11g router on an NTL cable modem. There's already a laptop using a wifi card with no problems.
Added a belkin .11g pci card and went thru all the setup. It's recognising my home network OK but when I try to open firefox or IE it just says homepage can't be found, packets are being sent but not received. It's the same with firewalls off/on, WEP/No WEP blah blah. Any ideas folks, I've got a pestering ten year old here and I'm at risk of losing 'Dad knows everything' pride. Thanks for any help.

It's set to auto detect. ipconfig shows very different address to the other pcs and the default gateway/dns stuff is missing altogether. I can't let xp manage it as the connection keeps failing every few minutes for some reason.

have you tried completely removing them as some security software will still run scripts int he background that can casue issues like this.

If it was me i would remove them and test. if ok from there try reinstalling them and see what happens
