Pci wireless adapter that works with vista64

doesn't *have* to be internal but I want the best connection possible via wireless as I will be gaming and the only other option is running a load of cat5 which I can't be bothered to do...

ASUS WL-138g *V2* (note the version), drivers come pre-installed on Vista. Got mine for £12-13 so cheap as chips. Aerial/reception is a bit pants though, might be worth getting an externally mounted aerial instead.

The best option for Wifi on the desktop is either a PCI card with the antenna on a cable, or a USB one with 6ft of cable on the end, this will let you position the antenna somewhere that isn't between a metal case and a wall.

Exactly :)

I'm on the verge of getting some Cat5 though, failing that a HomePlug kit, Wireless is too unreliable IMO.

Yup! I originally had a PCI card as linked to above, but couldn't pick up and signal.... so I bought the Abit AirPace and put the little aerial on top of my speaker and it works brilliant. Shame that doesn't have Vista 64-bit support either! :( Hence why I'm sticking with XP atm.

EDIT: Wey! Just checked the site and indeed there are Vista 64-bit drivers! :D

anyone used the abit airpace? It's a pci-express x1 adapter. Only problem I have is that my x1 slot is blocked by my graphics card.

I have read that it works in the x16 slot as well as the x1. Anyone doing this themselves or can verify if that might be possible?

Yup it works fine. The only time it won't work is if your motherboard x16 port has been locked to graphics only (rare). I have mine sitting in my second SLi x16 slot right now.

Cheers smids. My Second x16 runs at x8 so it should be okay in that i guess? I have a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR on the NF4 chipset which only supports one x16 and one x8 even though the x8 is the same size as the x16

Yup, it will be fine in that board. I've used lots of different types of cards in my old Ultra-D which is the same as your SLI version.
