Unfortunately my motherboard only has a PCIe 1.0a 8x slot. I was interested in the HD4850X2 and was wondering if its pointless on a board like mine? Would it be worth getting a new board with a PCIe 2.0 slot?

I think its more down to which games you play tbh. Bandwidth heavy games will definately suffer though, some games will be almost unnoticable in performance decrease.

Not much point imo... x8 PCI-e 1.0 is good for upto and including a single 4850 but above that performance is noticeably hit.

EDIT: I'm not sure it would even work... if its anything like the other X2/GX2 type cards then the card takes a PCI-e x16 signal and splits it into 2 x8 signals one set for each card... I'm not sure what would happen if it tried to split an x8 signal but I'm guessing only one card would init.
