More bandwidth (not that its needed at the moment), gives more power to the graphics card.

Good thing is that it is backwards compatible with current PCI-E cards. :)

hi azza

why is it not needed at the moment, the next nvidia series g90 will be pcie 2.0 and i,m sure you still need to hook the poer cables to the back og a GTX or ultra surely.

reason why i,m asking mate is dont want to fork out for a new mobo and than 2 months later be saying ohh damn if you know what i mean.

i,m hoping it will be another Agp Pro if you remmber that, not like if you bought an agp motherborad and than 2 months later pcie comes out which i can imagine a lot of people were annoyed if you also remmber that :)

thanks

I mean that the current highest ends cards 8800 Ultra, 1gb HD2900XT dont even utilise the full bandwidth that current PCI-E can offer.

The X38 boards should be out in september and they will have PCI-E 2.0 slots so if you can wait till then get one.

If you fork out on a new motherboard now with current PCI-E it isnt going to be like AGP where they will give up developing cards for current PCI-E because they will be compatible work PCI-E 2.0 they will continue to work on them

As for the AGP situation you talked about im pretty sure that Nvidia and ATI never utilised the full capabilties that AGP could offer if I remember correctly and PCI-E was just easier to do than working on AGP trying to get it better and better.

That wont be the case with PCI-E 2.0 because at the moment the currenct G80 cards can run any game really. It isnt going to be something that they say you need to upgrade to like with AGP to PCI-E.

(if any of that made sense, dont think it did. :) )

Whats your sepc at the moment?
