PCIe 5 and motherboards?

So, at some point, GFX cards will use the pcie5 standard. Does that mean those cards will only work with mobos that have pcie5 slots?

No, they will work.

PCI-E 4 cards have a small performance penalty on PCI-E 3, unless they have too few lanes and a small bus and insufficient VRAM (RX 6500 XT ).

All PCIE standards are backwards compatible and always have been
