Pcie bios problems

ive just built my system with 4770k
asus maximus VI formula
evga gtx 780
16gig avexir blitz 1.1 2400

now im new to the uefi bios but i cant seem to get my graphics card to use pcie x16 its only set to x8

am i missing something and if so please can anyone explain what is wrong ive searched for over 2 hours in evga/asus and multiple tech forums with no avail so ive come to ask the pro's

Which slot do you have the GFX card in?

Can you download GPU_Z from techpowerup and post a picture of it?

Try clicking the question mark next to the PCI-e info and start the render test and look to see if it alters.

nope nothing at all useing on board sound only expansion card is gfx

BIOS updated?
Chipset+GFX drivers all upto date from Nvidia + Intel?

yep flashed the mobo bios earlier no bios update for gfx and all drivers upto date

I had a quick Google, some suggestions of similar problems are,

Check the slot for debris.
Re-fit the CPU

ok wont be too hard 1 thing i thought of i have the mPCIe Combo II expansion card installed its in its own little slot so cant see it would matter but thought id best mention it

Wont be that.

The specs at Asus suggest the PCI_E slots are only effected by populating the three 16X (physical length) slots.

16X, 8X/8X, 8X/4X/4X

Also check in bios that onboard gfx is dissabled and have you enabled x16 there, you shouldn't need to but you may have fiddled with something!!! Think it's in the advanced section.

its one of them niggling problems you know its not affecting things to much but knowing something isnt right will cause sleepless nights
