I am a bit confused about pcie connectors. From what I understand the 6 pin ones can deliver up to 75W. The 8 pin version is a newer spec and can deliver 150W. However most cards I see that need more than one 6 pin use 2x6 pin rather than an 8 pin?

I bought a new psu that only has one 6+2 but now looking round at cards it seems that this will limit me to low-medium cards and anything medium up needs 2x6pin and I haven't yet seen a card using an 8pin. Are they likely to produce 8 pin cards in the future as it seems to be the newer standard?

Also if the 8 pin connector can deliver 150W which is the same as 2x6 pin is it possible to get an adapter to change the 2 pin into a 6 pin?

thanks

You would normally use a dual Molex (or single Molex if necessary) to 6 pin connector to power the second 6 pin on your card. Graphics cards default to 2 x 6 pin simply because it provides a more stable power delivery than a 6+2 would as it uses a full 6x +12v and 6x grounds, whereas a 6+2 uses just 3x +12v and 5 grounds. That and also they want to make sure everyone can use their card, even if they have an older PSU.
