PCIe Extender will it work

I would think it would work as it is just an cable to extend the port.

I would think it does not matter if it is PCI 1.0 etc specified as it doesn't have any electronics in it.

My question is however:
Where would you mount you graphics card? I'm guessing you just with to use a different motherboard slot.

Yeah i did think this but then i found them and they say 1.0 but also ive found some in the USA that say 2.0 with a small pcb on each end that must do something, only just had the idea so not looked yet... Well I’m going to order 2 of the 1.0 version now so should have them for Fri. to test.

My plan is to use a test bench I no longer use, as i work in a machine shop i can mill the top part of the case to go over the mother board plus cut out the rear io then mount the cards about 1" above the board.. Nobody copy me please haha joke!!

Bench link below :)

Ok well I run 3 cards at the min on an Asus Rampage Extreme IV

I use 3 slot cards (Palit Jetstream GTX6804Gb) so I need to use lanes 1-4-7 on the board to fit them in! Also lane 4 is not a Red 3.0 lane this isn’t a big deal but I am having GPU scale problems and this could be the reason but I doubt it..

Next I have a MSI board that I find runs 2 cards in Sli better than the Asus but the MSI board will not run 3 cards in lanes 1-4-7 because when lane 1 is in use lane 4 is reduced to 1x now this cable extender would enable me to use the MSI board for 3 way, Now if that works I can get use of a 4th card for trials etc. all in all I play BF3 @ 7680x1440 and would like to get full use out of the lanes on the MSI BIG BAD 2.. Fingers crossed: S

They don't work. Are you seriously going to try and draw all of that power through a ribbon cable?

I bought one last year but by the time it had even arrived I had done enough research to not even try it.

When I had my 680 Tri sli Classifieds I ran 1-4-7 slots and my cards where all
over 95% when using the gen 3 hack

Thanks! How did they perform on 2.0?

Soz Do you have a link to the hack/info and what screens did you run Thank You.

Thank You

I will give it a try tonight, i just get mouse to screen lag on 3 cards with the GPU usage drop but still a good 65fps, im sure if the cards would sit above 95% it would stop this..

Your welcome,

let us know how you get on.

Which bios are you running on your RIVE as some work better than others
when using 1-4-7 slots.

You'll also need to alter your skews if you haven't already.

OP unless you need the extra vram why don't you just get a pair of GTX 690s and if needed oc and watercool them.

skews?? :)

I'm on the latest bios for Win8, but back on Win 7 for now just to keep it less problematic, I'm just about to shut down and put the 3rd card back in.

As for the 690's like Nuclear Fusion said need more vram, I've done this so many times in the past with 5850's 6970's and 7970's but have always had mouse to screen lag one way or another once i use a 3rd card, i gave it all up then started again with the 680's thinking it would be fine HA!

I don't have loads of money, just a crap car :)

Update

The RE4 will not handle 3 way in slots 1-4-7 with my Res, but the Asrock Champion supports them 3 slots i use and works perfect..
