Hey! :D

Just having a browse as always in my BIOS (Asrock DualSATA2), and have been wondering for a while now what the PCIE Frequency does? Can i change it to give better performance, its currently at 100Mhz but can range from 90-200Mhz.

Dont wanna fubar anything so thought i'd ask

It will just increase or decrease the available bandwidth on that slot. Not really worth changing as I don't think the graphics cards will saturate the bandwidth anyway and will probably make things unstable.

Although I have heard that for ATI cards its best set at 105MHz. Not sure where I heard it or if its even right, but my slot has always been at 105MHz and it hasn't caused any problems. :)

thanks for the reply street, i upped it to 105Mhz just to see what difference (if any) it made, no noticible difference untill i thought to try overclocking my GPU again, before i couldnt raise the mem clock at all without it crashing, but with the PCIE freq @105 i got a 45Mhz (90Mhz effective) increase, and a slightly higher core clock (an extra 60Mhz from the core).

After a quick google i have seen many have it at 120Mhz to gain more performance with there GPU's but have also heard of problems it causes above 120Mhz on SATA drives. So I have no intention on raising it any higher, and am now satisfied i'm getting the most from my current graphics. :)

GPU monitoring

Guys what is the best way of checking how my graphics cards are running i.e temps, PCIE frequency etc... Only I have Speedfan, CPU-Z and AI Booster for my A8N32 SLi Deluxe mobo but none really tell you how yer GPU's are doing. Is there something anyone can recommend.
Cheers.

GPU Overclocking

Thanx for the prompt reply guys; is it worth then attempting to overclock the GPU's and if so, is it better to do it through the BIOS. I am ok with oc'ing the CPU but not oc'd the GPU before.
Any advice would be helpful!!!!!!!
btw I have 2 x 6600gt cards in SLi config.

You cannot do it through the bios, download coolbits - a registry edit that unlocks the built in clocking facility in your nVIDIA drivers whcih you can then use to oveclock at will. Should be able to find coolbits with a quick google.

Cheers hp7909,
I have Nvidia cards not ATi!!!!!!!!!

I don't think he was talking to you :p

Hell you guys are fast at replying :)
I may just leave my GPU's alone for the time being, well if I was not such a tight arse I would buy 2 better GPU's lol ;)
Its an expensive hobby this computer hardware lark :D

However the most recent version didn't work for my card (6800GT), the clocks just kept going up and up, and up, and up, and up, then sizzle.
ATIboi here so, did not know that :o

But it does it read temps, frequency, etc?

Oh, Lavalys Everest is also good
