PCIe Overclocking?

So I am soon to be upgrading my now very old X58 system, replacing the 3 X GTX 285's with a single 980 Ti. Along with an X5675 and 12Gb RAM.

This system was originally built for me. Looking through the Bios settings I have noticed that the PCIe is clocked at 110MHz. I have read that you shouldn't overclock it and instead lock it at 100MHz, however mine has been fine with zero problems for around 8 years. I think this was possibly done because of there being 3 GPU's with the 3rd slot running at 8X in this configuration.

So I ask, when I do the upgrade, should I knock it down to 100, or leave it as is. Are there any performance advantages of it being higher, some say yes some say no. Some say it increases stability overall when clocking the CPU, which I will be doing.

Thanks.

Personally i would lock it to 100 at first then if you wanna overclcok it fine. If the 980 ti has problems when you install it you may need to update the motherboard bios.

Yeah maybe. When the time comes I will be flashing a new Bios and resetting everything so I should get all the options back I would presume.

Yes back to default when you update a bios. Write down your overclock settings you may be able to use them at a later date.
