Pcm output - down mix 5.1 to stereo

Hi,
I wonder if anyone else knows how to do this. When I played a blu ray on my HTPC the only option is to output PCM over HDMI. Unfortunately my tv outputs the left and right channels of this surround mix via the audio out to my amp, meaning quiet speech and loud effects! Does anyone know if it's possible to downmix the multichannel output to stereo sound on the HTPC?

has you mobo got optical out and amp optical in ? you can have mobo sending pic to tv and sound via optical to amp

Sadly not, only HDMI and headphone output. Headphones output quality is very poor so that's also not an option

what mobo is it ?
