Hi there!

as an architect and casual gamer, Im interested in buying here in Germany a nice 17" laptop with a good display (around 100% sRGB, optional 100% adobeRGB too), i7-10875H, RTX 2070 Super, decent battery and no gamer looks.

USE: freelance work (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Revit - BIM, Rhinoceros, 3DS+Vray for renderings, Photoshop, Indesign, etc.) and casual caming (RDD2, Fifa20, Assassins Creed, Total War, Flight simulator?, etc)

The PCS Vyper 17 (same as Eluktronics Max-17 in USA) seems to be a really good price/performance laptop with i7-10875H, RTX 2070 Super non-maxQ, 2x16GB RAM Corsair 2666mhz, 2x 1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD and no OS for 1950€.

DISPLAY COLOR: it could have a better color accuracy to work with as it offers less than 100% but 92% sRGB and DeltaE2000 of 2.65 (calibrated 1.5). Other laptops like Aero 17, MSI GS75 or GS66, Lenovo Legion 7i offer better displays with 100% sRGB or even near 100% AdobeRGB (but 4K slower 60hz displays). Should 92% sRGB be enough for a decent color reproduction for example in Photoshop?

DISPLAY RESPONSE TIME: it could be a littler bit faster, as it offers BlacktoWhite 6-7ms rise / 4-5ms fall and GreytoGrey 8-11ms rise / 8-11 fall . Im not a competitive player, but as the display doesnt offer Gsync, should I be worried about those ms? (they are a little bit higher than 1/144hz = 6.9ms).

DISPLAY PWM: the display model is NV173FHM-N44. It seems to be a decent kind-of-IPS (a-Si TFT-LCD ADS) display with 300cd/m2, contrast 1/1200, EDelta 2.5-4.0, 92% sRGB, 60% AdobeRGB, but it does use PWM at 940-990Hz...is PWM at that frequency noticeable?

Review of the same display here:

I've been trying to find an alternative with a better display (100% sRGB or more, better DeltaE2000, faster response time, HDR, etc.), but I came to the conclusion that this is the best price/performance 17,3" laptop with the RTX 2070 Super non-MaxQ at the moment in Germany. Sadly there are a few really good 17,3" displays but much more expensive or use Max-Q GPUs (Razer Blade Pro 17, MSI GS75, Aero 17 HDR), and those 15,6" with 100% sRGB/AdobeRGB usually offer just Max-Qs (MSI GS66, Lenovo Legion 5, Lenovo Legion Creator 7i) or are heavier/gamer.

Would you recommend me this laptop? what do you think about the display? is there a better alternative that im not aware of?

Many thanks!

What about the Lenovo that do some nice machines

Hi TheHitMan, many thanks for your answer!

Sadly this year Lenovo just offer one model with 17,3" = Lenovo Legion 5 17" with i7-10750H (6 cores), up to RTX2060, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD, and the same display (144Hz 72% NTSC) for 1500€. And I would prefer to stay with the RTX 2070 Super non-maxQ for better future proof.

Going down to 15,6", they offer many models:

- Legion 5 with 10750H or 4800H + RTX2060 and 100% sRGB for 1400€
- Legion 7i with 10750H + RTX 2070 Max-Q and 240Hz 500nits 100% sRGB for 2150€
- Legion Creator 7i with 10875H + RTX 2070 Max-Q and 144Hz 500 nits 100% AdobeRGB for 2000€

The last one has a really nice display, but its still 15,6", Max-Q GPU and with a dark green chassis that I personally dont like :/

I’ve just taken receipt of the Aorus 15G and I’m very happy.
I’d recommend the Aero, which is very similar to the Aorus (internals and build quality) but more Creator focused.

Thanks Kohaashi! the Aero 17 HDR is indeed a good laptop with a nice display, but it cost way more...i7-10750h (instead of 10875H), 16GB Ram (instead of 32GB), RTX 2060 (instead of RTX 2070 Super), 512GB SSD (instead of 2TB) for 2250€...so 300€ more...or with the RTX 2070 Max-Q for 2700€....and in return I would get a nice 4K 500nits 100% AdobeRGB display, but 60hz and 30ms response time...so not ideal for gaming...would you buy it instead of the Vyper 17,3"?

Does it have to be the 17 inch model?
If not then the 15 inch Aero has the option for an OLED display which I think has a 1ms response time, but still 60hz.
Plus you could always hook it up to an external display.

Ultimately I think it depends on what your main priorities are. No laptop is perfect.
Looking at the games you play, these are not competitive twitchy FPS games so I don’t think the response time will be an issue.

Ive not owned a clevo laptop so can’t comment on them specifically.
