pda for my dad

my dads 60 next week and he has said to me he wants a pda, he works from home and will be using it for keeping contacts and appointments. He will be synching it with his computer, he basically just uses outlook and word on his computing, it currently has vista on it however im thinking of maybe putting xp on it so compatiability isnt really a big issue.

I dont know a lot about pdas, what do you think will be suitable and what software would be easier to use, windows mobile or palm? He currently has a wireless network setup although im not sure if he would really use wifi on the pda if it had it, although it is a nice addon
 
thinking of the palm tx, just wondering as i have never seen palm os really, is it simple to use? and also what is the syncing with the pc like? does it fully sync with outlook, ie if you download emails on your pda and then delete the spam, will it then sync those emails back to your pc when you connect?
