Just picked up a Fujutsu Siemens Loox 600 Pocket PC. Came with a GPS receiver as i wanted to use it for Tom Tom 5.1. Ive installed it all and got it running, yet it cant pick up a signal? Any ideas? It just sits there trying for ages? Shall i go outside and try it?

they do work much better outside, infact thats what they are really for. If you are in a city with tall buildings around you it can get hard to pick up a signal. Having said that it depends on the quality of the gps receiver.

Tried it in my car and nothing. Its a GPS reciever that plugs into the top of the PDA. Do i need to isntall anything?
I take it that its a CF receiver? Tomtom has to be configured for the receiver. If youve already done that are you getting any grey bars up to indicate that at least a signal is being received?

Yea its a CF receiver. How do i set it up? Tom Tom GPS Finds it, but just cant pick up a signal. Says no signal
when you on tomtom with the cf card inserted do you get a setup screen?
if so what com port/baud rate are you setting?

I got three options, Tom Tom Cable GPS, Other NMEA GPS and Other Bluetooth GPS
I select Other NMEA GPS as i aint got the Tom Tom cable or Bluetooth GPS
Then it asks for a Baud Rate.. what do i select?

After i select a baid rate it comes up with

CF_CARD GE
COM3:
Native IR:
USB Cable:
Serial Cable on COM1:

well, if its showing that its searching for a signal then you must have successfully established connection between the PDA and the GPS unit. Now its up to the GPS unit to lock onto at least 3 satellites.
What make is the GPS unit?

Globalsat are the best make IMHO. It just so happens Ive got 1 lying about that I cant get to work on my PDA. I'll gladly send it to you and if you make it work then we can come to some agreement. If not, then you can chuck it away!

i use a Holox (not to be confused with Holux) GPS reciever bought from ebay. Uber cheap 32 channel BT reciever. Works FANTASTICALLY!" time to first fix is literally 1min max when moved over 500miles while off. Time to first fix from a 'warm' start is <10 secs. Not bad for £30!
