Need some advice from a mobile guru :)
Out of the following ?

Nokia N95 8GB
Samsung Tocco (iphone copycat)

Is there a phone I am missing out on (ideally want 5mp camera, bigger screen and PDA like features, email downloads and also mp3 playback so honed around mp3 player etc)?

I know nothing about web connection on phones. Wifi is self explanatory, but what should I be looking for in terms of internet browsing ? 3G?

I noticed the Nokia N95 comes preloaded with Spiderman 3; so presumably I can watch other films on it. Is this something all phones can do now? Would I have to convert them or can I just play a 700mb avi? As they both have larger screens it may be quite nice to do so if travelling.

I unfortunately have to choose one before the iPhone becomes available as my contract is about to expire.

EDIT: Apologies, I may have posted this in wrong section. Please move if I have. Thanks

N96 - Due out very soon ;)

The iPhone is great for movies and web browsing tbh, but I just can't get on with personally. It's a bit too big for me, and I don't like the fact that I can't just install apps willy nilly like I can the N95 (which I have atm).

The N96 is very similar to the N95, just a bit nicer looking with more memory and storage.

/end thread.

How soon is it out?

Also, someone mentioned the HTC TytnII?

Thoughts?

Thank you!

There's rumours that it will be out in Aug, but I don't know for sure.
You don't always have to get your upgrade exactly on the 12mths, I for one am holding out for the N96, and mine expired in May....

iPhone: One Phone to Rule Them all.

Either you want a phone with features (Nokia N95/6) or you want to look cool (iPhone) - I chose the iPhone! :D

I agree completely. The iPhone looks amazing, much nicer than the N95/N96. But in summary the hardware (excluding the interface) is pretty poor. Rubbish camera, no video, no mms, non expandable memory, non-replacable battery, not the freedom of software stuck to itunes.

But then the web interface on the Iphone rocks, and it looks sexy. But I'm after function rather than looks myself. :)

HTC phones are a good touch option (I would say that, I have one :p), they are often branded to a company. O2 for example brand them as 'O2 XDA' and not as HTC TyTnII for example.

The TyTn is a bit of a brick though to be honest, I mean yes it does EVERYTHING, but it's size and weight mean it's not that great to carry around all of the time.

I actually have the HTC Touch and it's very good, although it could do with a faster processor, more ram, and maybe a slide out number pad...all it has is touch screen buttons (aside from hangup, call and Dpad buttons)

Another vote for the VARIO2, ( HTC), I have one and didnt bother with an upgrade as it does everything I want, PUSH (Exchange email) GPS (replaced the built in one with TomTom), decent camera, wifi, bluetooth. If I turn off wifi and PUSH I can get 5 - 6 days standby out of it. Its pretty cool that the screen tilts when you side the keyboad out.

Avoid the N95, my colleague has one and its pretty crap

You should look at the HTC and O2 ranges.

Playing videos on mobile devices is less than practical in my experience.

Same thing. ;)

I watched CSI:NY for a three hour train ride on my HTC Touch, and then a 20 min walk using TomTom to navigate around London and then a town I didn't know...although I went from 100% battery to about 10% that day. :p

I agree though, it's a bit pants watching stuff on such a small screen, especially when the phone has to scale down the video and stutters due to lack of performance. :p

I'd say...

HTC Touch Diamond or if you want a proper keyboard then...

HTC TyTN II (or Touch Pro due in a few months)
Samsung i780

I used to have an HTC Wizard which was a forerunner of the TyTN. Loved it with the slde out qwerty keyboard. I now have the i780 and absolutely love it to bits with a qwerty keboard on the front. These are proper PDA phones unlike the flash but poor iPhone.

The i780 has:

3G HSDPA
GPS
Bluetooth
WiFi
Windows Mobile 6
320x320 touchscreen
Thumbpad for mouse pointer control (very handy)
2 mpixel camera (the only weak point but still ok)
qwerty keyboard
fast 625mhz processor

...all in a device as slim as the iPhone

Really love this phone :-)

The iphone is not poor !!! its great !

better screen, who needs a mouse pointer when you can touch it ? Windows mobile 6 is not a advantage, I see that as a negative :P

I love being able to run windows apps on my Vario2 (it works nicely with vista as well).

Iphones as ok if you listen to music while walking with one trouser leg tucked into your sock and are 12 ;)

O2 dropped HTC quite a while ago and started making their own phones. ;)

Well all of the 'O2' phones on their site are HTC phones, and the stellar is a relatively new one in their XDA lineup. ;)

All irrelevant really as O2 don't have the greatest range of phones, due to the iPhone...and O2 just being silly generally. :p
