PDA Wont detect in Win XP

Hi,
Does anyone know much about PDA's? I just bought one off a mate, I dont have the cd or anything for it. I connected it via USB to my laptop which has Win xp 1st edition installed but it wont detect the PDA.

Any ideas on how I can get it to apprar in win xp so I can transfer files? cheers!

You need MS Activesync installed, this has the driver and the app that lets you do stuff
