not normally my problem but. . .

Going to order hp 24" tomorrow along with ram, last thing left to complete this build is gfx.

Can't decide between either

xfx 4890
Or
Sapphire 4890 vapor x
Or
BFG 275 oc

Xfx is the cheapest option with the vapor x and bfg about the same. Question is though how long till the new ati cards launch and the prices fall through the floor for the above cards? Should i wait? If so need something to stop gap for as cheap as possible.

According to the latest from the rumor mill, the DX11 ATI cards will be out in November-December. Thats a pretty long time in the world of tech, I suggest getting a decent card now like the 4890 VaporX or the BFG 275. The HP's res is 1920x1200- so you will be wanting a decent card to give you top graphics in current games.

You could wait and get a 4850 for now, but the obvious trade off is that you won't be able to play all games with everything turned up to max - very much your choice.

anything i save by waiting will be 'wasted' on the stop gap. Can't see a 4850 used making more than £40 quid once dx11 is here and the 10 cards drop in price.

Get a 1gb or equivalent card for now like the 4870 / 4890 / 260 / 275 - you won't go wrong with any of them. Or if your feeling a little flush there is always the 285 or the 4870X2.

Get the vapour x, they are great cards and will last you untill all the dx11 cards are out and you can chose the best from all sides, you never no, larabe might be here

Can't see the prices falling that much, I mean they are roughly speaking £150 cards, like always any new tech will have a premium price at launch, and with the holiday season then too I can't see 4890/GTX275 type cards dropping under £100 until next year. Even then you've not really lost that much value relative to standard depreciation in the market.

We're in July, it's a long time to wait before there *might* be better tech at *possibly* the same price if we're talking dx11 cards. If you ask me the 4890 series is very competitively priced right now, it's been a long time since I've seen such a highend card (i.e. something right up there with the best single-gpu solutions) under £150.

i'm edging this way, prices are so low at the moment there can't be much left in them.

I like the connectivity options on the vapor x, but all the bench's suggest the 275 is at least equal and generally faster.

Its a reasonably long time to wait and the cards listed arent that pricey.
BFG 275 gets my vote.

look for 4870 1 gb,4870x2,4890 ,gtx260,gtx275 or the gtx285 try and get them second hand i've seen the 4870 going for 60 quidish get two of them for ultimate performance (for now).

well....

xfx 850 core is £35 cheaper than the 275... around 20% less. factor that saving when I drop a second and it's a lot of cash :(

think i'll go with the xfx? brain hurts
