Hey,

A friends computer is experiencing a rather troublesome issue of crashing whenever they download (and perhaps install, I'm not 100% clear on this) to drive C:. It causes a power loss and the system shuts down. Rough timeline below:

1 week ago: PSU goes pop, PC dead. Gets new PSU. Error above occurs.

On spotting the error being drive C: important files were shuffled around and ran everything from drive D:

A few days pass and downloading/installing on C: is still causing issues. New SSD acquired. Windows installed and same error happens.

Tried pulling different sticks of RAM with no sucess, BIOS reset no sucess - managed to get a crash log report of 'Event 41 - Kernal Power' if that means anything to anyone?

Running out of useful ideas. Any suggestions at what might be causing this? I'm struggling sadly. Current line of thinking is the new PSU isn't up to scratch?

Thanks for any help!

Google Event 41 Kernel.

More common than you think and often nothing at all to do with suggested hardware. Though it can be.

I turned off a couple of settings in Windows and resolved it without as yet finding the cause.

Edit, sleep and hibernate are the settings i turned off, a few articles on the event 41 mention the Windows settings to change.

Of course testing memory, your drivers, drive health, gpu and psu are worth also looking at.

Small update: It started working properly again last night after a BIOS update?

Not sure why that would work but fingers crossed!
