Peculier problem with Memory Stick

I have an 8GB PNY USB2 flashdrive.

I recently took out the hub it was connected to while the machine was switched off to give it a good clean. I reconnected everything back up and booted up.

Now for some reason when I see the memory stick in My Computer it gives me an error message stating:

" K:\

Application Not Found"

Yet I can access the drive using explore or open in the context menu. The drive appears healthy in Disk management.

There is nothing on the drive atm.

might be an autorun.inf file (think it is kept in a hidden file on the drive) on the drive that is trying to call an application of some kind.

Change windows so that you can view hidden files and check out the flashdrive:

windows explorer -> tools -> folder options -> view -> Hidden files and folders (change the radio button to "show hidden files and folders")

[edit] autorun.inf is called even before you open the drive from my computer, for instance, if a usb drive has its own icon then it is kept on the drive and pointed to from the autorun.inf file so you can see the icon with the drive letter in my computer

I've just formatted the drive and it appears to have solved the problem. It works fine now and have just scanned it with antivir and spybot just to rule out anything dodgy (doubted it anyway).

Thanks for the help offered though davethe11. :)

I don't believe it the problem has arisen again...ugh..

edit - after formatting the *.inf files aren't found on the flash drive in question...

Also now when trying to shift large files over (say movies), it blisters through at around 80mb/s. And then the last few MB's take upto a minute or so? Has my hub borked? This doesn't happen in a USB port in my laptop.

Bump. This is really annoying me now :(
