Does PeerGuardian still work (by that I mean do its intended job) if you have another PC on your network connected to your
router via NAT. Does PeerGuardian work (again, do its intend job) if you have a static IP which translates to your
user name with your ISP?

Peer guardian has likely never worked. For every IP in their database I imagine there's another two which aren't :p.

sure, no doubt there is a hell of a lot of IPs that arent being blocked.. but I for one would rather block half.. or even a quarter of the IPs than not run any kind of IP blocker at all

it will work on the pc you install it on. Unless your doing ICS then perhaps the host pc would block it before its shared to ur computer. Don't quote me on that though

also if your planning to run it on a vista pc look up a application called ReadyDriver Plus

Actually their database consists of at least 2 billion IP address which is as near as makes no difference half of the interwebs available IP addresses.

I would never recommend this program to anyone since it's just a placebo created by the paranoid

Thats cos it don`t work on Vista 64:D
Try Protowall maybe?

it works fine on vista 64bit, also windows 7 64bit, u just need to get a program called "Readydriver", which automatically disables driver signing requirements on each boot up,

also u may find ull need to type this into cmd:

bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

although readydriver does disable driversigning checks u might get some annoying error messages sometimes unless u type that into cmd

This is a bit like trying overdose yourself on what are just placebo pills.

Seriously. Don't disable driver signing. Not for a pointless cause such as this silly little crappy program.

Driver signing offers you several very valuable features (like protection from rootkits). These are things that the ***** behind "PeerGuardian" can only dream of offering.

Just to agree with NathanE really.

PeerGuardian does not work on Vista x64. The reason they give for this is that they need a licence to get there driver verified however can't afford this (which I think is complete bull crap as loads of people in there forums offered to pay the $500 or so to do this).

I still think it's a useful program and as people have said blocking half the IP's is better than blocking none.

Though I wouldn't disable driver integrity just to get this running it's compromising your security if you do.

I may just leave off on this program then

Why not just put a block list on your router itself, this is what I have done, obviously not the billions but around 20 of the most common subnets/ranges used by common monitoring sites.

I fail to see how blocking 2 billion IP addresses is going to make your BitTorrent or web surfing experience better. It is only guaranteed to make it worse.

Please note that there are only ~4.2 billion IP addresses in the whole world. So using PeerGuardian is a bit like erecting your own fake Great Wall of China. Except that there isn't actually 2 billion barbarians on the other side trying to get in...
