Penalty for untaxed vehicle... worth an appeal?

Hi guys,

I bought a second hand vehicle back in March. I taxed the vehicle using the new keepers slip. I thought I'd taxed it for 12 months, however it was only for 6. Anyway, fast forward to September and the vehicle isn't being used and was parked on the street whilst it was up for sale online. I searched high and low for the V5 and I can't recall ever receiving it. I spoke to the original seller and they promised they sent it. I never received a tax reminder via the post and now realise dvla must have never received it.

I then got slapped with a ticket/sticker for an untaxed vehicle 4 weeks ago, the tax had run out in September and I immediately put the vehicle in my back garden. I sent off the form to request the V5 and stated the date in which I purchased the vehicle. In the meantime the sellers nephew had received a fine for an untaxed vehicle. Obviously what has happened is the seller had filled in the details incorrectly and the v5 had gone to his nephews by mistake. (The car was collected by a transport company as it was over 200 miles away and had no MOT at the time).

Anyway, I have now received the V5 as well as a fine for £92.00. Should I appeal it and mention the above mess or is it a waste of time?

Cheers,

Meanwhile someone across the road from me has left a SORNed car parked on public road for a year. Nothing has been done dispite it being reported at least twice :/

Yup, anything which involves more effort than sending an automated fine doesn't interest them.
