Penalty Shoot-out Alternative

Great stuff from Blatter. What a lunatic. As I mentioned in the other thread, I'd be all for crossbar challenge. Or perhaps everyone should just shake hands, call it a good game and head to the pub?

So apparently Blatter wants them gone. And, initially, I thought I agreed with him. But as much as they are a cruel and horrible thing sometimes, the excitement and nerves of a penalty shootout in a final are unmatched in my opinion. Even as a neutral, I always feel those butterflies when it comes to the wire in a shootout

And god knows, what the alternatives would be? Return of golden goal?

Only alternative would be to bring back replays although I agree penalties are great for the neutral and seeing as it's what us the viewer want to see and not Blatter then he should really concern himself with other matters..... like handing in his resignation ;)

penalties are 100% fair after 120 minutes of football if there is no winner it just makes sense to do penalties imo. no team has an advantage or disadvantage in penalties so i dont see what the problem is?

Personally I didn't see anything wrong with the Silver goal, although a lot of games would still end in penalities. I'm also in favour of replays and playing extra time at the end of the first match (domestic cups), but replays don't really work well in international tournaments due to the scheduling etc.

+1

Meh hes just sore that Bayern lost out on penalties ie a german team getting beat by an English team.

This.

Shoot outs have gone on for years with no authorities complaining so far. Probably because the germans always won :D

The minute an English team beats the Germans in one, Blatter and well known anglo footie hater Platini are getting their knicks in a twist.

How about if it's a draw the win goes to the non-English team, if there are no English teams then they have a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

I bet Sepp Blatter will love my idea. :p

If there are two English teams in the final recall all the match officials for re-education.
