Wow.

I have never been to a drum'n'base style gig so to speak so i wasn't entirely sure what to expect, especially with Pendulum. After a support act, Pendulum came on at 1.30ish (Started at 11pm) and it was simply mind-blowing. The bass was incredible, the mixes great BUT they didn't play many of their own tracks, just a few popular songs re-mixed in to their own, and then a re-mix of it again.

Example: Voodoo People and Slam.
Example 2: Destination Unknown (Dunno the DJ) and that kind of went in to Voodoo People again.

Etc etc.

Overall, amazing. I have work at 8am, not sleeping... <3

****** I missed this :(

Would have liked to have gone - sounds cool :) - where did they play?

Alex Gaudino did the original that Destination Unknown is sampled on.

I like the remixes of both those songs though :)

was it a pendulum dj set then ? i keep hearing bad things about there dj sets

the pendulum live show is what its all about !

if its one of the first times youve been to see a proper dj in a decent club though then no wonder you found it great , mediocore bands just dont compare

I went to a DJ set by them a few weeks back (May 18th) and it was pretty good overall, perhaps not stunning compared to some but well done all the same. Hearing their tunes from a proper soundsystem makes a difference. :)

Concorde 2. It was the first time i had been there and i was quite impressed. It's not too big but not too small either, intimate is the word i'd use. :)

I didn't know what to expect and i guess it was a DJ set; MC getting people dancing or whatever it could be described as with the DJ spinning/mixing various Pendulum tunes. Didn't hear too many i recognised but the atomsphere was simply awesome. <3

Quite sweaty after. :o

Its definately good news that they have stopped just playing their album in a different order! Sounds like a top night dude.

did they ever do that dj ing ?

i thought when they played there album mixed up it was the live show where they used guitars , synths , drum machines etc to play their own tracks , very very good stuff

Anywhere to listen to there live sets? Really wish they'd release more of it. I've got there radio 1 'Essential Mix' and its awesome. Pendulum mix of destination calabria sounds interesting!

I've got it too, pretty good set.

To the OP, producers who DJ too rarely just play their own tunes. The point of a going to see a DnB DJ (or any other DJ) is to hear them mix new and popular tunes from across the board, thus creating a new experience every time.

Saw Andy C play on 3 decks last year and it was incredible. A tune is a tune, but when mixed with two others it becomes something completely different.

eg: Take the track Hold Your Colour from the Pendulum album (seeing as most people seem to be using this as their introduction to DnB at the mo). On its own it's not that great (same with the rest of the album to be honest) but when you hear them or another DJ mix it into another tune it's on a whole new scale and it becomes infectious.

 . Any links to this? Gotta be good.

EDIT: I'm uploading the essential mix, gonna take a while! Will repost with the link when its ready!

Pendulum play very dull DJ sets. Seem them three times now, and wasn't impressed at all. Not seen their live set so can't comment on that.

The Calyx b2b Teebee set I saw recently though, was absolutely sick. And Break and Bailey have also put on wicked sets when I've seen them. Still waiting for the time when I get to see Limewax and Tech Itch, can't wait.

There's a time and a place for live gigs, and then there's a time and a place for wicked dnb sets :) Now you've heard your first, explore the genre a bit more, and don't end up being some clone who only likes Pendulum, and spends the whole time waiting for them to drop Tarantula, and then maybe a TC song which you will go mental at because you've never heard it before. There's much better stuff in dnb :p

the thing is that VERY strangely the reports ive heard from people who have seen pendulum DJ recently say they didnt play much drum and bass at all and that the tracks would have better been suited at a school disco...

Put Your Hands Up For Detroit followed by Bodyrox is an example of the tracks they played at the custard factory the other week...... :(
