Pentax releasing full frame(35MM) dSLR this year

It's unwise imo to invest in Pentax DSLR gear... their future is uncertain and their lens choices limited.

Nah,people will be fine. The same was said 10,20 and 30 years ago,so selective memory is quite interesting. Pentax is still here after decades.

Plus their lenses choices are fine since the K mount is decades old and there are plenty of lenses,in fact dozens of currently available lenses from them and third party companies.

I expect, then people will point out exotic lenses Nikon and Canon might do that 99% of all people would never buy.

Plus you need to be very careful - people said the very same of Canon in the 80s,before the EOS range was launched saying its unproven, not enough lenses compared to Nikon, etc. It all came to nought.

Pretty much the same same for Sony too and even Fuji. They will never succeed, not enough lenses rubbish, etc.

They seem to be doing quite fine.

Same for Olympus - people love their gear and they had a massive accounts scandal too. Olympus had far more chance of folding than Pentax did. Like Fuji they do a full range of imaging products,so they are somewhat diversified too.

But Pentax for some reason gets more illogical criticisms than any of the others especially since they have a far better longterm track record with their system.

Yet Sony,Fuji and Olympus broke compatability with loads of older lenses meaning you need to invest in their new mounts, and could do so at the drop of a hat,ie, the A-mount being screwed over with the progression to FE mount, and 4/3 to m4/3 meaning you need expensive adaptors which cut down on functionality too.

Olympus also totally ditched the OM mount and Fuji their earlier SLR mount too.

Pentax is also owned by Ricoh,a company which last year had $18 billion in sales, and its operating income is a few times that of Nikon,so their future is fine.

But then like I said people just like to beat on Pentax, that including someone I knew who won numerous awards for his work using a Pentax K5.

I'm no sure the price is that exciting. Sure its nice for the few Pentax owners but it ultimately wont help Pentax that much. Its basically a D800 which you can get for 800Euro.

Pentax will likely sell as many priced at £1200 as £1900, just the same faithful Pentax users.

Wait a D800 with a full warranty for £800 - might want to replace my D600 for that sort of price!! The cheapest I saw was £1250 at John Lewis for an ex-demo one and I didn't get it for that price.

Define full warranty, you can can get pick one up for that price form a good second hand shop with a warranty form the shop.

Full manufacturers two to three year warranty. The ex-demo D800 I saw at John Lewis last year had 250 shutter actuations and the box and gubbins inside was untouched. Not a single mark and had the full warranty. My ex-demo D600 cost £670 from them with the full warranty and was practically untouched, and that was nearly two years ago.
