Pentium 4 error beeps on startup

i have an old pentium 4 SKT 478 system, the cooler broke on it and now when i switch it on it beeps 5 times, then a pause and 5 beeps, this continues with no signal to monitor.
looking at error beeps on the net, 5 beeps points to the processor, but i have changed the processor for another and it does the same.

Anyone any ideas?

Your motherboard is complaining. Try reseating the memory and rebooting. If that doesn't help, you should consider another motherboard. You could probably get away with just replacing the CPU, but that's not too cost-effective. Its just time to upgrade!

i tried another processor with the same result, will try re-seating the memory later.
i would just dump it but my wifes got loads of files on it she needs to keep.

anything else i can try??
