Hey guys my mate built a new system based around a 3.4gig Pentium D processor, despite my advice to go conroe tho

Anyways he ran 3D Mark and he was happy with his score but really he knows nothing as his spec is

Pentium D 945 3.4ghz
2gig ddr ram
x1900xtx 512mb
asus mobo...

and he got the following 3d mark score for 06

SM2.0 Score 1449

HDR/SM3.0 Score 1884

CPU Score 636

OVERALL 3352 Score

Now the obvious problem is how low that cpu score is and also his SM scored but that can be related to the cpu im sure! He was running cata's 6.8 I know that much but no idea why his CPU is so low!

Is there any drivers or updates etc that he would need to get in which to increase that cpu score because I checked similar specced systems and they achieved 5*** as the total score!

I have a 3800+ 64 myself so no idea on the whole dual core side of things unfortunately!

ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

ok thanks tetras il double check that with him! basically talking the mobo software disk i guess yeah? and if that is the problem performance **** go up yeah?

Mobo disk should have a copy yep, don't install any IDE drivers though, whether it is from VIA 4in1 or nVidia nForce, performance is fine and less buggy with the Windows ones. Not sure about Intel/ATI chipsets.

Make sure he has the drivers set to defaults and hasn't enabled High Quality mode with AA/AF etc too, cos that would be another one of the frequent causes of a lower than expected 3D Mark score.

*UPDATE* Nothing happening....im gonna go reformat it for him tomorrow and start the process from the start!

Its an Asus mobo and il need to find out the type, any solid ideas how to do that?

I updated the bios too and the cpu is still performin badly

I take it you found out the mobo model (to update the BIOS)? I always found CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com one of the easiest, mainboard tab gives you all the basics and don't have to install the program to use :)

It had an auto update tool for the bios! I think starting from scratchw ill be the best way for him, means I can work through each thing at a time!

A pentium D 945 (3.4 ghz) should get around 1600 cpu marks in 06 i believe, i searched orb, anyone using or used anythign similar?

I've got the Pentium D 950 which I think is basically the same but the 945 runs cooler. You should be able to get it over 4ghz with a good cpu cooler........I'm a noob and I did lol. @4.17ghz I get 2046 cpu marks, not sure what they were at stock.
