Firstly I d like to say hi to everyone, ive been around this forum for a while and im sorry that my first post is a question.

I got a little drunk the other day and some how managed to get the AI booster function working on my P5ND2-SLI, I then proceeded to overclock the CPU and raise the voltage in small increments (the CPU was at about 3.3GHZ and ive had it at 3.8 in the past). The screen started to flicker but because id had a few beers I carried on regardless :rolleyes: . I got to about 3.4 GHZ and it died and didunt reboot, The auto reboot function didunt work and I had killed something.

It turnned out id killed the motherboard I get no post screen everything turns on but there is nothing on the monitor. I bought a ECS PF5 Board yesterday and everything is working again however ive tried overclocking the CPU again And I cant clock even slightly and the voltage at 2.66 GHZ seems very high, its at around 1.9v :eek: .

So my questions are:

Have I seriously damaged the CPU and can I save the old motherboard?

Cheers

Craig

Did you reset the CMOS on the asus board? Because when I OC too far I get the same thing, no display but everything running until I reset it (same baord, deluxe version)

ECS = crap

Someone else managed a whopping (snigger)3.1ghz with an 805 and an ECS board... I think a capacitor blew up shortly afterwards

Cheers for the info I just read the post where the guy was chuffed with the 3.1 GHZ overlock I think ill be returning it in the morning.

I tried reseting the CMOS but nothing :(

Yeah, that was me!! :D

Lose the ECS pronto buddy!

It was terrible at OC'ing the 805, though not too bad with a 940...

You should be able to eak a bit of an overclock out of it by enabling the PCIE synchronisation option in the bios, but it won't be much I'm afraid.

Ive tried everything I can think of with the P5ND2 Still cant get it to post, ivetried switching the ram diconnecting the drives and still nothing :(

what psu are you using

ive heard of people with low wattage or low quality PSUs having problems with overclocking the power eating 805s

Could certainly be why, I had a cheap 480w and it couldnt handle the load past 3.3-3.4ghz. Ended up getting a 430w seasonic and it is fine even at 3.8.
