Hi i currently have a D915 (2.8ghz stock but does 3.5ghz with no volt increase) cpu in my setup but have recently had to replace my mobo as my old one died. The new Asus board i put in supports c2d chips so i was wondering wether a 2160 c2d would be better than the D915 that is already in there.

Cheers.

:)

Only if you can guarentee buying a M0 stepping E2160. If not go for the E2180 as it's only available with the M0 stepping. :)

Even at a humble 1.8 Ghz, a C2D will still beat a P4 at double the clock speed in the majority of applications. So even if you dont overclock it would be better to get the C2D.

And if you do overclock it... well thats just a bonus.

get a E2140 cheap as chips and will do 3ghz

Depends if luck swings his way. I bought a E2140 recently and got the L2 stepping. It can't even do 2.66GHz at stock volts and doesn't get near 3GHz even with increased volts. :(

My E2180 M0 stepping does 3.2GHz easily though: :)
