DELL Optiplex 320 DT Desktop PC

Pentium Dual Core E2140 (1.60Ghz/800MHz)

2GB 667 MHz Memory(2*1GB)

wondered if the cpu is same old "Pentium D"

like this?

The machine i use at work got "pentium D" sticker on the base unit. i dont like it at all :( too slow

Nah, completely different architecture, pretty much just Conroes with lower cache. :)

Edit: Also, the E2140 is a great budget performer for a desktop machine, had a Optiplex745 with one in and it was a pretty speedy machine for the usual office tasks, video watching, etc.

I think we need a sticky or a banner that states the 21XX series are in fact derived from Conroe. Pentium D is just a marketing moniker.

This is the third thread in as many weeks, I think. :)

Proof that it is a hideous marketing blunder, since their release there have been questions about these chips, it's the same in the laptop sector for the Yonahs.

not as bad as the what appears to be 30 thread per week saying "anyone know why my core is running at such a low speed, is it broken, have i been ripped off, etc".

Those threads are doing my head in now.

didnt they say that the pentium D was just 2x pentium 4's togther and not a true dual core

And the Q6600 isn't a true quad core but it smokes Phenom. :p

The Pentium Dual Cores are just Allendale based Core 2 Duos with 1MB of L2 cache, completely different. A 1.6GHz Pentium D would be awful.

That's right but it's Pentium "D" as in Desktop and the E2***s are Pentium "Dual Core" which is completely different.

Very confusing it's like the Mobile Pentium4 and the Mobile Pentium4-"M".
