would an overclocked one of these better my i3? i know it doesnt have HT, i was just looking at the list on here and was curious.

It depends what you're doing. For single-threaded applications, a clocked G3258 will beat the i3 @ 3.6GHz. Bear in mind that you can OC the G3258 to 4GHz on the stock Intel cooler. I had mine under a £20 Rajintek Themis and OC'd it to 4.2GHz at just above stock voltage.

For anything that requires multi-tasking/multi-threading, the i3 is better.

Worth highlighting that most games - even that are normally viewed as only needing two threads - run better on the i3 with more consistent frametimes. There are very few occasions the pentium wins so it'd be a downgrade overall - I'd not advise it unless you just want the fun of doing the overclocking.

I'd agree with this. My i5 4670K at 3.8GHz stock turbo, outperforms the G3258 at 4.2GHz in nearly everything. Even though the G3258 is running faster.

It is however a fun and inexpensive chip to learn how to OC with. The fact it's only £60 meant I wasn't too worried about getting it wrong and damaging the CPU. After all, it's a lot cheaper than an i5 4670K/4690K!

I've got mine at 4.4 on the stock cooler @ 1.3v on a h81m-c that I hot for cheap on the mm.

One thing to bear in mind is that offset voltage overclocking, you need to set it manually for it to apply.
