Pentium or Celeron?

Guys,

Is a Pentium Dual Core T4300 worth 40 quid more over a Celeron T3000 and if so, why?

I am in the same sort of situation. Looking for a laptop for my uncle and weighing up whether or not he needs the extra power of the T4200 (basically the same as the T4300, just clocked a tad less).

The T3000 looks to be very decent if its just for light applications, internet etc.

Whats it being used for?

It's being used by my sister, so will be used for browsing the internet, installing spyware, installing 320 seperate internet explorer toolbars and using IM.

Just go for the Celeron in that case, they were designed to run toolbars

Yup, Celeron will be fine for her - spend the 40 quid on Dummies books, or beer.

Would she cope with Linux?

Last time I checked she didn't have a beard or play WoW so Linux is out of the question

Oh come on this isn't 1999 - any muppet can use Ubuntu for surfing and IM, plus its relatively muppet safe!

I personally don't think the extra 300mhz of the T4300 would be that noticeable for web browsing and general day to day usage. Bar the name they are pretty much identical in design, same cache same FSB etc.
