Sorry, I've been out of the loop for a while.

Both of the above are approximately the same price, but which would give the greater performance?

I know neither are fantastic, but it's to upgrade a 2.6 Celeron PC that needs to be cost effective and also won't be overclocked.

It'd be used for Media encoding and light gaming.

Thanks in advance.

Definetly the e2140, and e2140 is pretty much fantastic when overclocked it's near enough as good as it's family that are £100 more :) I know you aren't overclocking but still, at stock it's a brilliant chip.

The E2140 is much faster than the P4.

If you are using a really old skt 775 motherboard then it might not support the new Core 2 Duos.

E2140 will be faster because its dual-core & don't forget Core microarchitecture which has been reworked from the ground up therefore also more efficient.

Hope you have a compatible mobo? Not all Socket T (LGA775) can take C2D.

It's a (rather cheap!) Abit SG-95. It supports 800mhz Core Duo's so fingers crossed it'll work okay.

Thanks for the incredibly quick responses,
