When I moved to the midlands around 10 years ago I noticed people called each other "duck":

Hello duck
You all'right duck

How far does this phenomenon spread? It appears to be around the Nottingham, Derby, Chesterfield region. Wondered if people had heard it from further afield

Anyone have any of their own "localisms"?

p.s. It's a slow Tuesday...

I've noticed working near Wakefield and Pontefract that they tend to call people cocker or love. Sheffield seems to be mate or pal.

I live in Dronfield, being between Sheffield and Chesterfield, I hear it numerous times a day lol

Bus drivers are the worst for it

my inlaws are from Stoke,

when i first met my farther in law he told me that there was tea in the pot duck.

i went to the kitchen looking for a novelty teapot, i was quite disappointed!

I've used it all my life on a daily basis but I am from Stoke.
When my wife moved here from Leeds in the late 60s she used to go round asking people the time to see how many say 'duck' which was virtually everybody.

yes it happens a lot in Stoke, since I moved here. Drives me nuts! It's not like they say it once or twice it's like on every sentence.

Not just "Duck" they also use "Sug" too, suppose it's short for sugar. Proper annoying IMO
