people do actually think this sort of thing looks good

Matt has a point though, those lights do my head in. Some are almost as bad as main beams at night, usually belonging to a chavved up taxi Audi/VW.

That won't get through an MOT. Joke's on him.

Depends on the tester, how well they have been aligned, and the light output.

My e36 passed with retrofitted HIDs, but it had projectors as standard. My mates Classic Impreza passed too, and it doesn't have projectors.

This explains something that happened to me not long ago.

Must have had some plonker using lights like these behind me for about 5 miles a few weeks ago on the way home, along the A6 from macclesfield to stockport. At first i thought he had his beams on so i flicked my fog light at the back a few times to let him know.... no effect.

During the drive he got flashed numerous times by cars coming the other way who were obviously dazzled.

When we finnaly got to some lights where we were nearly side by side i wound down and motioned to him to talk, ( he seemed a nice enough bloke and he didnt seem angry ) he put his window down and i said something along the lines of

" is there a problem with your lights? they seem like they are on full beam?"

to which he replied.....

"naa just after markets m8" and drove off with a smug look on his face.

I assume at some point he will be pulled over by the plod, as they really were like full beams.

I had HID lights on my last Saab without projectors and never got flashed, also passed an MOT, their only comment was "Your lights are strange, they don't turn off". Something strange with the Saab relays meant that if the engine was on you couldn't turn the headlights off, instead they did some insane strobing effect.

That wouldn't even make it onto Barryboys.

Fail Matt :p

This

of course he thinks HIDs look good.

We all do, which is why xenons are so highly sought after. They make the car look good as the white light looks better, and they emit more light too.

Just this poor bloke doesnt realise how to do it right.

But hardly worth a thread

looks like a standard passat to me

This, it's not exactly bad, at first glance it looks standard to me.

Lip spoiler, HID's and clear side repeaters.

It's not even close to barried, just a terrible attempt at modification.
Stance and wheels are the main things to focus on modding vw's, then it's all suttlety, smoothing, deleting, arches (maybe).
Unless you're going for an OEM+ look.

Subtle, not suttle. Please.
