I may have a day's work in Sheffield, which will finish at 2am. The first train back home is 4:30am ish. Is it a safe city to hang about at that time? Are there any very late bars? Is the train station accomodating at night? I considered a hotel, but for the sake of two hours I'm not sure it's worth the cost.

You may bump into me shaking a cup in and around the Train Station grounds to afford my next Indian Takeaway… @Stu999 :p

If I’m honest, I’ve not hung around the City Centre at those hours since my Super Spreading days.

I’ve always found Sheffield City Centre behind the times compared to other City’s where places seem to open much later and consistently to the extent that it attracts a half decent crowd at those hours.

The Station isn’t far away from both Bus Stations, not too far from Arundel Gate and even worse The Moors and The Wicker (Places to avoid in the day, nevermind during the early hours..) at those hours would only attract a crowd worth avoiding, most likely a few knocking around for some spare change types of people would be your only real concern though.

I’d not like to suggest the McDonalds at that hour either, it’s in walking distance of all those avoidable areas.

If you intend on hanging around for your train I can only think of seeking shelter at the Mecure Hotel or Genting Casino as I imagine both are 24 hour bars/lobby and are only 5 mins walk from the Station.

From what I remember when I used to live there, the station will be closed at that time. I had to wait outside for a few hours in the morning.

It's pretty safe in that area though.

There’s an easy hotel in the city centre that can be dirt cheap depending on the day

Otherwise you’ll be fine if not a little bored at that time of night. Casinos will be open as already mentioned
